Edwardian Villa Garden
Brighton . UK
Barfoot Design were appointed by a keen gardener and plantsman himself to create a functional ‘outdoor -living’ garden with pockets of discovery. Set against a beautiful Edwardian Villa, Barfoot faced the challenges of a steep landscape, thin soil and underlying chalk. Key to Barfoot’s design was to innovatively manage the steep garden into a functional space by dividing the descent into three terraces that offer individuality.
The first terrace which consists of a large stone terrace adjacent to the villa accommodates a dining table and a relaxed area for BBQ’s and socialising. The middle terrace, dominated by an existing Mulberry tree introduced a new lawn outlined by planting, a sun terrace, and a summerhouse. Connected by steps, the lower terrace within a circular design uses local flint.
